Every Day Can Be Earth Day

Every Day Can Be Earth Day

As parents, we always want what is best for our children. We want them to be happy, healthy, and to grow up in a world that is safe and full of opportunity. Part of being a good parent is teaching our children to be good stewards of the Earth, the home that we all share.

We can start by teaching them the importance of recycling and working towards zero waste. Showing them how easy it is to recycle materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill will help them understand that their individual actions can make a difference.

As they see the positive impact that environmental stewardship has on the world, they will be more likely to continue these behaviors into adulthood. By instilling these values in our children, we can help create a generation of environmentally responsible adults who will make a positive difference in the world.

With gratitude,

ACTIONS

Start an Upcycle Bin

As parents, we are always teaching our children about the importance of being good stewards of the Earth. We tell them to recycle and to try for zero waste. Here is a chance to put those words into action. Create an upcycle bin and a plan to reuse some of the old containers. Create something new with your kids!

Take Pride in Your Neighborhood

Every day we have an opportunity to make choices that will help to protect our planet. An easy way to help out is to take some time to clean up your neighborhood.

Celebrate Earth Day Every Day

We can choose to recycle instead of throwing things away. We can choose to compost our food waste instead of sending it to the landfill. We can even choose to walk or ride our bikes instead of driving whenever possible. By making these small changes in our daily lives, we can model the importance of environmentalism for our children and create a better future for all of us.

CONVERSATIONS

After volunteering, take the time to reflect on the experience. Sometimes the reflection solidifies the importance of the opportunity for children. Here are some questions to guide your discussion with your children.

  • What is your favorite kind of flower?

  • What season is your favorite?

  • What do you enjoy doing outside most?

  • Can one person make an impact when it comes to helping our planet?

  • What can you do to help the earth?

  • What is something our family can do to help make the earth beautiful?

  • What is zero waste?

  • Can we as a family challenge ourselves to have zero waste for a day, a week or a month?
